‘Made For Each Other Kind A Couple’, Heart-Warming Love Tale Of Mehak Gupta and Varun Vaish

“Marriage is not about age; it’s about finding the right person.” – Sophia Bush

Well, that’s so true and true in literal terms for one of the most amazing real-life couples, Mehak Gupta and Varun Vaish. Mehak and Varun Vaish make for one of the most gorgeous couples inside out. Both of them met at an event, instantly had that connect and just wanted to grow old with each other. A quote by Barbara De Angelis just crossed my mind and I think Mehak and Varun’s wedding chronicle is too going to be like that. The quote says, “Marriage is not a noun; it’s a verb. It isn’t something you get. It’s something you do. It’s the way you love your partner every day.” Their love for each other, their commitment to one another and their strong bond quite evidently reflects in their eyes. Without further do, let’s just get into the details shared by the bride about their relationship, marriage, love, and lost more!

Tell us something about you and your partner? How did you guys meet? What sparked the idea of a marriage?

My husband Varun is a corporate lawyer who works in a corporate law firm in Delhi and I am an in house counsel with a multinational corporation based out of Gurgaon. My Husband graduated from Oxford and I from Cambridge and we met in a social event organised for Oxbridge Alumni living in New Delhi. After we met a few times socially, we realised that our value systems were very similar and that we were both family oriented individuals who wanted the same things out of life. Subconsciously, we both knew that we wanted to commit to each other in a manner that was more than just a relationship. Our relationship continued to progress naturally and then one day, Varun proposed marriage and I said ‘Yes’!!

– [ ] How did you choose the wedding destination?

Our families were certain that we would have a destination wedding wherein our closest friends and family would take some time out of their lives, travel to a place where they could forget their schedules for a bit and celebrate in our happiness. Since I have my roots in Rajasthan and since Jaipur was well connected from Delhi, it seemed like the obvious choice for our wedding both in terms of ‘coming home to get married’ and logistical viability.

– [ ] What were the first things that you planned?

The first things we did was finalise the hotel which would host our wedding. J.W. Marriott, Jaipur’s services have always been par excellence and they were extremely supportive of our wedding plans particularly during these uncertain times. Once the venues within the hotels were finalised, the next steps were to finalise our clothes, guest lists, followed by the decorations, entertainment and menu……..in that order!

– [ ] Tell us about each outfit you picked for all the functions?

Frankly, it was my mother and sister who did all the homework and research and made it a lot simpler for me as I was busy with office. Thankfully because of mom, we had finalised most of the outfits before the lockdown except for one or two. Two of my main outfits, wedding and mehendi were done by Dolly J. and they were exceptionally professional with fittings and timely delivery. However, my cocktail outfit was also done by them during the lockdown, after my original piece by another designer was delivered damaged. And my Haldi outfit was a last minute buy from Study By Janak, when I went to select Varun’s wedding outfit.

– [ ] How did you pick Groom’s outfit? Did you guys co-ordinate?

Varun was sure he wanted to wear something that was complementary to my wedding lehenga and not too contrasting. At the same time, I wanted to keep my wedding lehenga a surprise for him! I accompanied him when he picked out his Sherwani and guided him in the right direction without revealing what I would be wearing!!

– [ ] What was the most memorable moment you had in your wedding?

The most memorable moment for me was when Varun’s Baraat was about to enter the Hotel foyer area and he managed to call me and asked me to come to the window of my room from where I could see the Baraat arriving. He looked towards me as I stood there by the window watching the Baraat enter and he blew me a kiss!! That moment is etched in my memory forever.

– [ ] How did you plan everything? How was your experience planning the wedding?

Given that I had full time work commitments during the lead up to the wedding, I knew that the only way I could get everything accomplished was by being organised and communicating effectively with Varun and our families. Amidst the uncertainty due to government notifications, opening of the venue, ensuring the compliance of the SOP’s, etc., the experience was hectic and exhilarating, however, our families were a great support and things were smooth because of everyone being aligned.

– [ ] Did anything go wrong? How did you handle it if so.

We were having a wedding during a lockdown and so there were a million things that could have gone wrong. I guess, I was just sure that I wanted to enjoy this time with my family and did not want or need everything to be perfect. A few things did go wrong for e.g. my makeup artist refused to attend because of the pandemic scare, my cocktail night Lehenga wasn’t delivered etc.  However, I took everything in my stride and believed that making a promise to be with my soulmate in front of my friends and family meant more to me than any of these peripheral experiences.  My family and friends were very helpful and we solved every problem that came our way the best we could!!

– [ ] Advise for future brides?

I would highly recommend a more personal and intimate wedding as it gives everyone, especially the bride, groom and their families a chance to enjoy, as well. Also, I always used to think and tried to master the art of perfection, however, my wedding helped me realise that at the end of the day, what matters most is the quality time spent with your loved ones and minor hiccups only helps one create wonderful memories for lifetime.
