Shaadi ka laddu jo khaye wo pachtaye aur jo na khaye wo bhi pachtaye”. But if the wedding plans are all messed due to certain big pandemic, it really hits hard and that’s what happened with many couples out there. One such couple was beautiful Diya Sharma and her handsome soulmate, Gaurav. Nonetheless, their love for each other surpassed it all and they tied the knot in total swag. So, here the bride and the beautiful diva, Diya shares her love story, how she met Gaurav and much more insights about their wedding. Here you go!

Tell us something about you and your partner? How did you guys meet? What sparked the idea of a marriage? The bride was quoted as saying, “I am Diya and my husband is Gaurav . We both are complete opposites … he is a very homely and simple kind of a person, who likes to work 7 days a week , loves home cooked food …. doesn’t go out for outings much… all his life revolves around his family and work …..where as I m completely opposite – I stay out whole day , love to go to mall 4 days a week , loves movies, shopping and never eats home food. It  is an arranged marriage. I have a friend at my work place ,she and her father fixed the 1st meeting between the families …. so my parents met him and his family and really liked them. Then after 2 days we met at MKT along with the families, exactly like old traditional times… and due to some small reason the marriage couldn’t be fixed ….. but we liked each other …. since it didn’t materialise we continued our routine lives ….after 4 months our families again spoke and then we got fixed and within 3 days we were rokafied (14 Th March 2020). His simplicity and his passion for work were the two main reasons that made me fall for him. And he says it was love at the first site for him.”

Then we also asked her as to how did she and her husband decided on to their wedding destination. She replied, “It was a very tough job . In my roka itself we had 200 people. And organising wedding with such a small number of 50 people was a challenge … we had contacted many 5stars in delhi but they were not allowed to operate . My 1st function was on 13th June 2020 and we had no venue till 11th June morning … then gurgaon was open we contacted an event company @k.event.5099 and they helped us book The Leela, Gurgaon.”

And when asked, what were the first things that they planned, she retorted, “First thing WE planned was MY SULAKSHANA MONGA LEHNGA only thing I was sure of was that I wanted to wear that lehnga and makeup has to be done by Leena Bhushan .”

Talking about the outfit for her wedding and for other mehendi functions, Diya shared the following:

Wedding Lehenga: Sulakshna Monga

Mehndi Outfit:  Aza ( Aisha rao )

Groom’s Wedding Sherwani: Sarab Khanijon

Groom’s Mehendi Outfit: Sarab Khanijon

Talking in-depth about the wedding attire, Diya was quoted as saying, “LEHNGA was from sulakshna Monga and the fact that made me fall in love with the lehnga at first sight was that it had work of ghongroo which I found unique … all the other bridal lenhnga of other designers were very usual and had same old work of zardozi   And dabka … this ghoongroo work in diamond design was a fusion of tradition and modernisation, according to me…his made me fall in love with the outfit.”

Further, sharing how the groom’s outfit was picked and if they coordinated on their wedding, Diya answered, “We didn’t co-ordinate actually because we had only 15 days to plan our entire wedding so we had no time for personalised customisation … so we coordinated our outfits in simple ways like Gaurav’s Sherwani’s dupatta had a piping which was of lehenga’s color  and his mehendi outfit had some sequence work matching to my lehenga … but trust me I’m glad that all my designers were generous enough to make entirely new outfits for us

What was the most memorable moment you had in your wedding? “When my husband suddenly sat on his knees’ and I reacted in a very shocked way as I had no idea about it . And at that moment – me telling him to get up, as all elders are watching … it’s an arranged marriage so I got conscious. And second was at my vidai each and every person of my family ( 25 members ) , servants were crying and even my groom was literally in tears  but I was the only person laughing saying everybody goodbye and did not shed a single tear…. I was literally excited for my vidai.”

How did you plan everything? How was your experience planning the wedding? “It was an amazing and exciting experience. In fact, I am a person who had a dream of getting married since her kinder garden, truly speaking I can’t imagine my wedding to be better than this …when I was small I wanted a grand fairy tale wedding but now my hearts says it was even better than that as grand wedding would not have been sooo excitinggggg.”

Did anything go wrong? How did you handle it if so? “Everything was perfect except two things : 1. A/C of the hotels have to maintained at 25 or above, soooo we started sweating and makeup got affected. 2. Because of the curfew timing we had to wind up the wedding early and my husband was very upset because that my daddy was rushing things telling to do the vidai early.”

Diya signed off by giving an amazing advice to all future brides and said, “Don’t worry about how it will happen and what will happen, eventually things will fall in place and it will be the best day of your life. With corona or without corona in the world your special day will be cherished forever…. so let’s stop postponing or worrying and lets go get married girls.”
