The death of the African-American man George Floyd has sparked the entire nation of the United States of America. The American streets are thronged with protesters demanding justice and fighting against racial discrimination prevailing the society. The heat of injustice didn’t just stop in America but the waves made its way to not only India but entire world. The entire world came out in support of ending the discrimination taking place within the various societies of the world.
In this time where everything seems to be going wrong here is a couple to give you a spark of hope that ” It’s going to be alright”.
The couple is none other than Tennis star player Serena Williams and Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian.
When they met, she’d never heard of Reddit, and he had never watched a single one of her matches. But, as we all know, opposites attract.
Despite being a well known and disciplined athlete Serena is not a morning person. But she heard good things about the breakfast at the Italian hotel Cavalieri Hotel where she was staying. So she went to enjoy it but was 5 min late. Disheartened she took a seat by the pool and started ordering food.
The same was for Alexis who was there to have breakfast only to find that it was closed 5 min ago. He too took a seat at the pool next to Serena Williams.
Serena remembers “I was so annoyed that he’d sat down next to me,”. “There were so many empty tables!” Undeterred by the frosty reception he seemed to be receiving, Alexis jokingly responded saying that he was from Brooklyn—he’d seen lots of rats, and they didn’t bother him. Serena started cracking up and asked him to join her group. He obliged but was still a little unsure whether the person with whom he suddenly found himself having breakfast was the Serena Williams.
Next is all history which ultimately resulted in nothing less than a fairy tale wedding. Alexis, in an Armani suit adorned by ear to ear smile.
In an interview with The New York Times, Williams, who is Black, opened up about how being in an interracial relationship with Ohanian, who is white, has changed her view on love. “I never thought I would have married a white guy, either, so it just goes to show you that love truly has no color, and it just really goes to show me the importance of what love is,” Williams said.
Well said by Serena Williams, it doesn’t matter what color your skin is as long as there is love. Just like every color is beautiful in the same way everyone is beautiful in some way or other.
