NIKAH CEREMONY

Muslim wedding rituals are very blest and joyful. Their wedding rituals are very simple yet elegant. Their wedding is termed as Nikah. It is an urdu word. The wedding rituals of Muslim Matrimony may differ from region-to-region. So here we are sharing some sacred rituals of Muslim wedding to know it more closely.

Istikhara ritual: This is one of the very important and valued wedding rituals for Muslims circle. During this wedding ritual, the religious heads of the Muslim community come together to pray to Allah to seek his blessing to begin the wedding rituals.

Imam-zamin ritual: During this holy ritual, the groom’s mother visits the bride’s home. She present some gifts to beautiful bride before marriage. That can include jewelry,clothing, sweets, clothes and many other gifts. She ties red cloth with coin around bride’s hand.

Mangni: This ceremony is also known as engagement in Muslim matrimony. During this ceremony, the Muslim groom and bride exchange rings. Both the families also exchange gifts, fruits, dry fruits and sweets. This is one of the most important ceremonies.

Manjha ritual: This ritual is same as Haldi ceremony is Hindu culture where the bride-to-be wear yellow clothes and a haldi paste is applied on to her face and body of the groom & would-be-bride. After the Manjha ritual, the would-be-bride is not expected to leave her house until her big wedding day.

Mehendi ceremony: Both Manjha and the Mehendi ceremonies are attended by very close family members and friends,which is similar to the Hindu wedding rituals. In this ceremony, the beautiful henna designs/art are applied on the bride’s hands and feet as a ritual. This is celebrated with immense joy and love.

Nikaah ceremony: The wedding ceremony can be conducted anywhere at the home of bride or groom. Venue can also be fixed mutually for Nikaah. A Maulvi (priest) in the presence of close family members and relatives conduct the ceremony. The ‘Walis’ (father of the bride and groom) play a crucial role in the ceremony. During this ceremony Maulvi reads selected verses from the Quran and after that the Nikah-e-Qubul ceremony is conducted after which the Muslim wedding ceremony is considered as complete.

Mehar ceremony: This is a big blessing day for the bride and an important ritual on nikaah where all the elder members of grooms family give a token of love to the bride in form of cash,gifts etc.

Nikaahnama: Nikaahnama is legal paper in which the marriage contract is put on record. It comprises a set of rules and conditions that must be appreciated mutually, also gives the bride right to split-up her husband. In order to make contract legal, it is supposed to be signed by both the parties, Walis and the Maulvi.
