Rebant and Suvarna met in New York City. They both went to Ivy League schools and met during an Ivy League Networking event in New York. They started dating in November 2017 and got married on 8th October 2019 in New Delhi. It truly was love at first sight for them. Suvarna is born and brought up in India and went to the US in 2016 to do her Masters while Rebant is born and brought up in the US but has grown up watching Bollywood films. So, when first met, they actually started talking about movies and their love for Bollywood. Their wedding had 2 sangeet functions only because they both love Bollywood and wanted the wedding to be one big Bollywood movie production.
The overall wedding theme was minimalistic. They had all western weddings as the inspiration, so they worked with greens, golden and white. This was consistent in all the wedding functions. Suvarna and Rebant didn’t want to have over-the-top lighting or decorations, so they used mainly fairy lights, candles and warm white light as the lighting for all the events. The outfits were chosen first to coordinate them with everything such as lighting and decor.

Just like everyone else, Suvarna had been creating Pinterest boards for a while and was following different pages on Instagram. She has always wanted to wear pink at her wedding and with the help of her inspirations, she was able to nail down the exact pink color. They also picked out inspirations for the groom’s outfit from Pinterest.
Suvarna didn’t want to wear something very heavy so she decided against wearing micro velvet lehengas. While trying out lehengas, she was very comfortable in raw silk and decided to go with that. So she got her lehenga customized from Zeenath Plaza in Chandni Chowk. They wanted to get outfits coordinated so Rebant got his sherwani custom made from a boutique in Lucknow.
The wedding functions lasted 6 days and they had 10 functions overall. The function started at Suvarna’s home in Dehradun and then came to Delhi to join Rebant’s family. This gave Suvarna plenty of time with her guests.
Suvarna’s most memorable part of their wedding was the Cocktail party. They had an official formal party from 7 pm to 11 pm and then an after-party with just the closest friends which was really fun. It was a super casual affair and everyone was in their pj’s dancing to 90’s Bollywood music. It was amazing to see everyone letting their guards down and since they had a lot of friends from abroad, it was great seeing them dance to Bollywood music.
Advice for future brides: ”Take help from your friends! My friends were there with me throughout, right from finding inspiration for décor to outfit. You can’t do everything alone and even when you have a wedding planner, you need help in communicating your visions. I couldn’t have done my wedding planning, sitting in New York, without my friends!”
